You don't need insurance for a driver's license. If you plan on driving a car though, that vehicle needs to have insurance. There is no grace period for no insurance on a vehicle, it must have insurance. If your parents haven't already, they should add you to their insurance policy to show that they know you are of age to drive, and in case you get into an accident with their car, it's covered.
