Are condoms not made as well as they used to be?

I'm really not trying to be mean, but trying to understand. I am reading questions posted here EVERY DAY about condoms breaking and people fearing pregnancy. I always thought that they were pretty reliable, but it seems that the quality of their manufacture has gone down hill. I'm not actually trying to be obnoxious here. My husband and I used them years ago and never had a problem. Maybe they're not as good anymore? I am truly curious as I have a teenage son who might be planning a trip soon to the drugstore for his own supply of condoms (God help him if he does!) as I write this, and frankly, I'm going to have to have a big discussion with both my teens if these things are breaking so much. It's kind of scary, if you think about it. What are the actual statistics about condom breakage?
