Does anyone know?

Why cats purr?? i know its a weird question but ive always wondered.. we have 3 cats.. and one of them simba is always purring when we hold him or pet him and peach my cat doesnt pur alot.. and missy ehh shes always meowing when we pet her.. I will give you 10 points if you can actually answer this. =) lol
