I quit taking my birth control the beginning of this month, period 6 days lat now...could i be pregnant??

i quit taking birth control the being of this month and now my period is 6 days late. Yesterday i took a hpt, and it was neg. Could I still be pregnant? I am not seeing any signs of my period coming...help!!"
