We got hit by a drunk driver :/?

ok so me and my gf got into an accident august 26,2009. we were at a stop light my gf was driving and all of a sudden we get hit from the back. so we pull over turns out the guy who caused it was drinkin and he hit the lady behind us which in turn caused her to hit us.the lady was a cop from the next city and she had a baby in the back, she secretly called the cops they came he got arrested, and we went to accident and injury clinic. we filed a lawsuit he didnt have insurance so yea and we called the lawyer they said nothing informative and we have no idea whats goin on with that. will it be settled soon its been a long time since weve heard anything form the lawyer. im calling tomorrow and im thinking of just telling them to drop it what should i do?
